In 2019 the Morgan County Fairgrounds will celebrate their 65th anniversary of the Brush Rodeo on 4th July. Back in 1949 Memorial Park Race Track located on the County Fairground in Colorado, known then as the Brush County Fairground, held its inaugural meeting on 3rd June 1949. The 4 furlong oval racecourse, complete with two separate chutes, one of 5 furlongs and the other of 7 furlongs, shared a 152 metre home straight, offering a programme of thoroughbred and quarter horse races. It was the first racecourse in Colorado to have a pari-mutuel system and raced for 8 days annually. Racing finally came to an end on 20th May 1967, and little evidence remains of the site of the former racecourse. |
